2018 Tournament Team Tryout Info
On Sunday, April 15th Laguna Youth Baseball will be holding the first of two tryouts for the LYB tournament all star teams that will play in the Cal Ripken State Tournament in July. Assuming there are enough players at each age group to field two competitive teams, LYB will be fielding two teams at the 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U and 12U levels.
Being selected for the tournament All Star Team is a serious time commitment with practices and activities up to seven days a week. If selected, your child is expected to attend scheduled practices and games as well as participate in activities and fundraising. In addition to fundraising there is a $180.00 per player fee required to help offset the costs of the tournament team uniforms. Being selected for the Tournament All Star Team to represent LYB is an honor that brings with it many positive aspects as well as expectations. The tournaments are competitive tournaments and the goal is to win. There is no guarantee of playing time, but if your child is selected to be on the Tournament Team, it will be an experience they will never forget. It will set the stage for future participation in tournament play, with the chance to play against the State’s best players.
Cal Ripken rules require that all players MUST bring a copy of a JANUARY UTILITY BILL to the tryouts. The name of the parent/guardian of the player must be on the utility bill and the bill must match the address that was used to sign the player up with Laguna Youth Baseball. If the player does not present the bill at the time of tryouts, then the player will not be allowed to try out.
In addition to the JANUARY UTILITY BILL, your player must also bring the attached Tryout Registration Form.
Please have your child wear their current team uniform to tryouts. No travel team uniforms or previous All Star team gear.
To determine which age tryout your child should attend, the age of your player is determined based on how old they are as of April 30th, 2018. For example, if your player turned 8 on April 21st, then the player would tryout for the 8U team. If your player will be 9 on May 15th, that player is considered an 8U player because the player is 8 years old as of April 30, 2018.

If your child is interested in trying out, please email Mike Pott at firstname.lastname@example.org with your childs name, current division and team name, and tournament age. If you have any questions about the tryouts or your child cannot make a tryout for a particular age group, please email myself at email@example.com to obtain information regarding the tryout or to request a separate tryout for your child. If you need a separate tryout, we will work with the coaches of that particular age group to arrange a tryout.
Please remember: Players who are interested in participating need to complete a Tournament Team Tryout Registration Form, bring their JANUARY utility bill, and wear their current team uniform to the tryout. Exceptions will not be made if missing these components. Thank you!
